Steps to follow for system installation:
---------------------------------------
* COLLECT 1.05 is normally installed as a prt of the MEDshare#1
* 1.08 system. The following instructions are to be followed
* only if you received a single distribution disk with only the
* COLLECT 1.08 program modules on it.
----------------------------------------
Use install/update COLLECT.
1. Make a backup of the COLLECT distribution disk and store the
original in a save place. Use the newly created backup disk for
all following installation instructions.
2. Insure that you have at least 1 Mega bytes of free disk space
on your hard disk to hold the COLLECT.EXE program and data files.
3. Insure that you have DOS 3.3 (or greater) installed on your
computer. This can be done by entering: VER <enter> at your DOS
prompt.
4. Check your hard disk for any faults using the DOS 'CHKDSK'
utility (see your DOS manual for more information). If any faults
are found the MUST be corrected before installing COLLECT.
5. Place the COLLECT distribution disk #1 into eithe disk drive
'A' or 'B'. From the DOS prompt enter the following:
for disk in drive 'A': A:INSTALL <enter>
for disk in drive 'B': B:INSTALL <enter>
This INSTALL routine will step you through the process needed to
load all of the COLLECT distribution files onto your hard disk.
You will be prombed to enter information necessary to properly
install your COLLECT distribution files, create any needed sub-
directory that these files will reside in, and make any necessary
changes to your CONFIG.SYS file. Upon completion of this INSTALL
process you will be ready CREATE/UPDATE your COLLECT data files.
6. Collect should be installed into your current MEDshare#1 or DENTAL#1
sub-directory. In most cases this will be:
For MED#1: C>CD\MED1
For DENTAL#1: C>CD\DENTAL1
7. All COLLECT distribution files are distributed in compressed
format. After the INSTALL routine has copied these compressed
files to your hard disk it will automatically de-compress all of
these files. If this is not the first time you have installed
COLLECT duplicate de-compressed files will already reside on your
hard disk. At the time of file de-compression you will be disp-
layed a message asking if you wish to replace the existing file.
Answer 'Y' to each of these messages otherwise you will not have
the current COLLECT files on your hard disk.
8. Print your user manual and read before going any further:
a: turn on your printer
b: enter C>COLMANUL <return>
ALL COPIES OF COLLECT WILL INITIALLY LOAD AS 'UNREGISTERED'
HAVING A 100 PATIENT LIMIT. THIS PATIENT LIMIT WILL BE REMOVED
UPON THE ENTRY OF A VALID 'USER REGISTRATION NUMBER'. THIS 'USER
REGISTRATION NUMBER' IS UNIQUE TO EACH USER AND IS PROVIDED TO
THE USER UPON RECEIPT OF A FULLY PAID AND PROPERLY FILLED OUT
REGISTRATION FORM.
REGISTERED USERS WILL RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING BENEFITS:
>CURRENT VERSION OF COLLECT;
>PRINTED USER MANUAL;

*** COMMON PROBLEMS AND THEIR SOLUTION ***
******************************************
1. INSUFFICIENT MEMORY: COLLECT operates totally within the 640K
limits of your system. This area is also used by your operating
system and other programs you may have been using. To see if you
have sufficient memory to load COLLECT run the DOS 'CHKDSK'
routine. You should have in excess of 540 K free memory. Next,
after you have loaded COLLECT press the 'F10' key when you are at
the DATE PROMPT on the COLLECT sign-n screen. You should have
available free memory of 60K. (NOTE: COLLECT REQUIRES UP TO AN
ADDITIONAL 60K OF MEMORY FOR SEVERAL OF ITS FEATURES TO RUN. IF
YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS 60K OF FREE MEMORY CHECK YOUR 'CONFIG.SYS'
AND 'AUTOEXEC.BAT' FILES TO SEE WHAT OTHER PROGRAMS YOU ARE
USING. THE BEST TEST IS TO REMOVE ALL BUT THE 'FILES' AND
'BUFFER' COMMANDS FROM THESE FILES, REBOOT, LOAD COLLECT, AND SEE
HOW MUCH FREE MEMORY IS AVAILABLE. THEN ADD BACK IN THE FEATURES
YOU WANT UNTIL YOU LOSE THE 60K REQUIREMENT.)
2. ERROR MESSAGES ENDING WITH A '(2)': This error is a result of
COLLECT not being able to locate its data files. This error is
normally a result of COLLECT being installed on one system and
then copied to another system and to a different disk
drive designation. To correct this problem just delete
the 'COLMVBLS.MEM' file then re-load COLLECT. You will be taken
into the system initialization cycle.
3. "OPEN FILE" message or error messages ending with a '(4)':
This error is a result of COLLECT not being able to open a file
due to limits controlled by your DOS system. This is corrected
by correcting your 'CONFIG.SYS' file to have the minimum 'FILES'
and 'BUFFERS' commands as required for system setup. After you
have corrected your 'CONFIG.SYS' file reboot your system - THIS
IS THE ONLY TIME THAT THESE PARAMETERS ARE READ.
(NOTE: COLLECT is always being improved. These improvements may or
may not result in a change in the version number of the COLLECT
program. MEDshare reserves the right to make these changes
without notification to existing users. When a major improvement
has been made all users will be notified. The charge for these
improvements will be dependent upon the features provided and in
most cases will be
